James Osborne declared winner of Intermediates
Posted by rathmineschessclub in Uncategorized on July 11, 2008
James Osborne has – belatedly – been declared the official winner of the Rathmines Chess Club Intermediate Championships. There was a three-way tie for first between himself, John Maher, and Pat Freer, plus a couple of unfinished games. This complicated and delayed the announcement of a winner. However, it was agreed last night, at the committee meeting, to count only games between the three contestants themselves to find a winner. James secured 1.5/2 points against his nearest opponents, which was more than either John or Pat. On that basis, James is a very deserving winner.
Well done to James!
Summer Team Tournament Result
Posted by rathmineschessclub in Uncategorized on July 11, 2008
The Summer team tournament came to a dramatic and very close conclusion recently. In one of the final games to be decided, Jack Killane defeated Peter Lynch to deny Peter’s team victory. In the end, Team B, composed of Michael Kennedy, Pat Freer, and Shane Hall, were the winners. Congratulations to all of them on a fine performance. Thanks must also go to John Maher for choosing very well-matched teams, because the difference between all of them was only 2 points.
