Rapid On Thursday 25th

The first Rapid of the season will take place on this coming Thursday 25th, starting at 7.45. This is a good opportunity to play reasonable length games OTB.

The format will be four rounds with time control of 15mins + 10 sec.

With a scheduled max of 50 mins per round the starting times are 7.45, 8.35, 9.25, 10.15, finishing at 11.05. In the event of an exceptionally long game the tie will be adjudicated.

The draw will be seeded so that large rating gaps are avoided as far as possible.

“The more the merrier” so make it if you can. If you can’t make the first round there is no problem joining in at round 2 with a bye.

Teams Excel In Final Round

We entered the final round with four of our teams in precarious positions and only the Bodley in contention for honours. After some tense encounters, we can report that all our teams all pulled through with excellent results.

In the Armstrong the final round 3.5- 4.5 loss to St Benildus A was more than enough to secure our first division spot. Our guys finished with 6.5 points to spare and only a few points off mid table. Muhtarim on 7, Fiachra on 6.5 and Mustakim on 6 can justly be proud of their achievements in this very strong division. With the younger guys performing so well we can surely look forward to climbing the table next year.

In the Heidenfeld we faced into the last round facing the dreaded possibility of both our teams being relegated. The A team could manage only 1.5 points (after an unfortunate default through illness). However, the B team came up trumps winning 5-3 against Lucan and securing a Heidenfeld place for the club for next year. Tony Bermingham and Joe O’Hanlon were the top scorers but again some of the younger guys caught the eye with their play. Sanjay Menon 5.5/10, Sean Hunter 5/9  and Eoin Hunter 4/9 can surely all look forward to further progress and success.

Going into the last round the Ennis were favourites to face the drop. However, with probably the performance of the round they achieved a 3-3 result against a far higher rated Enniscorthy team and found safety. Niall Whelan and Cian Bergin were the highest scorers.

The BEA team finished with a drawn match and easily secured a comfortable fourth spot. Tom Butler returned and excellent 8/11 just missing out on a board prize.

In the Bodley both our teams performed well in the South section , securing second and third places. In the play-offs our Junior team scored excellent 4-1 and 4.5-0.5 wins to secure promotion to the BEA. Again some wonderful performances by our players. Jack McIntyre 6/8, Dave Condren 6/6! Andrew He 5/6, Cillian Scallan 5/7 topped the list among some strong performances.

All in all, a good day’s work and well done to all concerned. In particular, we should recognise the work of the captains without whom none of this would be possible.
