A big problem among chess players is that they are Not as good as they think they are and are delusional to the facts , they look at a GM game and say to themselves I can play like that and if not now then soon but it is much harder than it looks and when they lose they keep turning up with excuses such as they were tired etc .
Rathmines chamionship is turning into a nightmare , in my last game as usual I finished worked at 7 pm ,exhausted came to the club and half way through my game I could not think any more and I got up and a club member standing and watching my game behind me said to me you have a good position and when I sat down 1 minute later I decided to grab my opponent bishop with my queen which was protected by his queen !! and before I know it I am down a queen for a bishop!. Game over . I think part of problem is not only fatigue but may be the fact that same as league there is no prize for the winner , it’s like playing cards for free , you play reckless and don’t make same effort, having said that I am not materialistic person .
The video below of Geri’s game highlights the problem of delusions in chess players but also highlights another more recent & controversial subject in the game ( I am not going to name it ) , I think we can all forgive Geri for performing it in this game .
The best chess website in island of ireland ?!
After failing to secure a place in national club championship , I have decided to go to ennis congress to compensate , I wish Meritocracy was the norm in team selections and a panel would select teams , any one wants a lift to ennis let me know ,After this I am going to take 2-3 months off chess as the latest controversy has made me lose faith in humanity .
